Construction of new underground utilities around Squantum School continues with the
contractor C. Naughton, working on behalf of the City of the Quincy Department of Public Works.
Their work for the next couple of weeks will consist of removing a couple of trees just outside
and within the existing playground area along the Standish Road in preparation for the
underground work that will be constructed in this area. During this time the contractor will be
using temporary fencing to secure the area, so that the playground is open to the public and safe
for use. The one of the existing gates on Standish Road and another gate open to large grass area
of the park will remain open for access. In addition, the crew will begin installing a few electrical
structures along Standish Ave sidewalks. Sidewalks will remain closed during this time. Lastly,
subcontractor to National Grid gas will continue installing new gas main from intersection of
Huckins and Mayflower towards E Squantum St along Huckins Ave. The duration for this section
of work is estimated to be a week. Once completed, the crew will return to the intersection of
Huckins Ave and Standish Road and extend the new main along Huckins Ave towards Bellevue
Road for approximately two weeks. There will remain lane closures during this time.
· During this time, access to the rear of the school remains limited, and there will be no
through connection between Mayflower Road and Standish Road.
· All school bus pick-ups and drop-offs will take place along Standish Road.
· No curbside parking will be allowed on Standish Road during this phase of construction.
Temporary signs will be posted.
· Parents are encouraged to park along Huckins Avenue, Mayflower Road, and Parke Avenue
along the park.
· The park and playground will remain open throughout the construction period.
